Towards Resilience and Inclusivity: Adapting to Multifaceted Challenges in the Asia-Pacific Region
BEIJING, CHINA

CALL FOR PAPER

The Asia-Pacific region stands at a critical juncture in its urban and housing development, shaped by profound transformations. Rapid urbanisation, technological advancements, and significant demographic shifts are collectively reshaping the housing landscape across the region. The COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated these changes, prompting a fundamental re-evaluation of living spaces and urban environments. These transformations have revealed two fundamental challenges in housing development. The first challenge centres on resilience – the capacity of housing systems to adapt and respond to rapid societal transitions, from shifting household structures and lifestyle preferences to emerging economic models and technological disruptions. This adaptability has become crucial in an era of increasing uncertainty and change. The second challenge focuses on inclusivity amid growing housing inequalities. As housing markets evolve, disparities in access, affordability, and quality continue to deepen across different social groups, highlighting the need for more equitable housing systems that serve diverse community needs and promote social sustainability.

This conference provides a platform to explore and discuss these critical challenges facing the Asia-Pacific region. By bringing together diverse perspectives and experiences, we aim to deepen our collective understanding of pathways toward resilience and inclusivity in housing development. We welcome contributions that provide valuable insights, compelling case studies, and theoretical frameworks that can inform our discussions of these complex issues and inspire innovative thinking about the future of housing in the region. The conference will serve as a vital platform for interdisciplinary dialogue, bringing together diverse perspectives from architecture, urban planning, sociology, economics, public health, and environmental studies. We welcome fresh perspectives and innovative approaches that can advance our understanding of contemporary housing challenges. Through this collaborative approach, we hope to stimulate new thinking and inspire future directions in addressing both the adaptive and equity challenges of housing in the Asia-Pacific region.
